Inspiration from type from media

I began researching different sources of media to find space themed typography. I took my resources from video games, film and graphic design.

I really liked the cut out astronaut with the textured background. As we will be creating a project on Apollo 11 I would love if my project looked aged/vintage. This would make it feel personal to the journey of the three space men. I want this project to feel like an old photo album, making it personal and real. This design connects the past and present, and makes users feel part of the Apollo 11 mission's lasting story.

I aim to create a product that captures the spirit of Apollo 11 by mixing modern font styles with classic design elements. This blend of old and new not only makes the project more visually striking but also leaves a deeper impression and connection with the user.

I began looking at these fonts in particular as they are wide and thick which is what i am currently looking for. I will now experiment with many typefaces to find the correct one that aligns with my idea.

Experimenting with styles

I began my design process on Figma, looking for bold, futuristic fonts that fit with the theme of space exploration. I wanted the font to be readable, impactful and match the space concept.I tried out many styles of fonts, from sleek and modern to more unusual and artistic ones. Each one showed a different side of the space theme, with shapes that reminded me of stars and planets.

The images from Figma show the progress of this decision, with different font tests and how they affected the look of the app. These images show how the right font can change the feel and usefulness of digital products, especially with a theme as strong as space exploration.

Choosing the right type

I've selected "Syncopate" for the heading styles and "Futura" for the body text from the list above, as I believe they best align with my concept. The broad design of "Syncopate" lends it a modern, futuristic appeal.
