After analysing Cerner’s CareAware Connect on my last blog in competitor analyse i decided to create a quick case study. I am hoping this will give me inspiration and knowledge for my own internal system.

Overview

Cerner’s CareAware Connect is a mobile solution designed to streamline clinical workflows and enhance patient care for healthcare professionals. This case study explores the usability and efficiency of CareAware Connect by assessing its impact on the UX of medical staff and patient outcomes.

User Research

User research focused on understanding the context in which CareAware Connect is used, the tasks it supports, and the needs it fulfils or fails to fulfil. The research involved 15 healthcare professionals, including nurses, doctors, and administrative staff, across three hospitals that employ Cerner’s solutions.

Findings

• Efficiency: The majority of users reported a significant reduction in the time taken to access patient data and communicate with team members.
• Usability: Some users found the interface to be non intuitive, particularly when performing complex tasks.
• Integration: Users appreciated the seamless integration with electronic health records although some reported synchronisation issues.
• Adoption: New users faced a steep learning curve, suggesting a need for better onboarding materials.

Design Evaluation

The heuristic evaluation and usability testing highlighted areas for design improvement:

• Simplify the user interface to facilitate easier navigation.
• Enhance the onboarding experience with interactive tutorials.
• Implement customisation options for users to tailor workflows to their preferences.

Impact Assessment

CareAware Connect had a noticeable impact on patient care and staff satisfaction:

• Improved response times to patient needs.
