In todays lecture Hal McGonigle led a lecture on about his journey into design. We will be focusing on who we are as designers.
Creative Confidence by Tom and David Kelley is a book that helps people unlock their creativity. It says that creativity isn't just for artists and designers, but something that everyone can nurture. They share their knowledge from IDEO and Stanford's d.school to show how to move past fear and let out the creativity inside us. The book offers ways to turn this creativity into practical use, with a focus on building the confidence needed to come up with new ideas in day to day life.
Creativity isn't just about arts like drawing or painting. It's about finding new ways to solve problems and express ideas. Everyone can be creative, even if they can't draw or paint. You can be creative in how you solve problems, design things, or explain hard topics. It's about thinking in new ways and connecting ideas. This means everyone can be creative in their work and life. Understanding this can help more people feel confident to be creative and share their ideas.
When we show off traits like inspiration, empathy, purpose, and a mindset for growth, we're sharing not just our creativity but also our dedication to meaningful design. These traits show we really understand what our audience needs, that we're thoughtful in our work, and that we're always looking to get better. By focusing on how much we've grown instead of comparing ourselves to others, we can see how far we've come and how much more we can do. This way of thinking helps us see that we can always learn and get better, making our creative journey more positive and productive.
After learning about Hals experience in the design world and how he got where he is today it has inspired me not to be so harsh on myself. I find myself second thinking who I am as a designer and almost have a sense of imposter syndrome. After listening to Hal his talk has made me more confident in my future and has given me hope for whats to come.
