The team from BigMotive gave us a presentation in todays class. It covered a broad range of topics, including the following:

• Aristotle's 7 elements of storytelling, a classical yet still highly relevant framework for crafting compelling narratives.
• The concept of personas, mindsets, and empathy maps, which are essential tools for understanding and engaging with your audience effectively.
• Various methods of expressing and exploring narratives, such as dialogue, storyboarding, and user journeys, each with their unique strengths.
• The importance of decor and visual identity in setting the stage and mood for your story.
• The role of melody and a coherent design system in creating a harmonious and immersive narrative experience.
• Insights from the works of Oliver Jeffers, a respected figure in the field of storytelling.

Following their presentation we participated in a group activity designed to encourage us to explore and express our personal understanding of what storytelling means. We each wrote our thoughts on sticky notes and shared them with the group. On my note, I wrote that storytelling is a process, as every story unfolds over time and includes a beginning, middle, and end.

Reflection

As I am studying storytelling this semester, I found that many of the points discussed during BigMotive's presentation resonated with what I've been learning. It was a reinforcing and enriching experience. I particularly appreciated seeing the diversity in the projects they undertook. For example, they showed us one project in the medical field and another project aimed at children, which was an interactive walk through the universe. It was a powerful reminder of how storytelling can be applied in various contexts and still create meaningful experiences. Overall, the talk with BigMotive was great and served to deepen my understanding of storytelling.
