A logomark is a simplified graphic design or symbol that represents a brand. Unlike a logotype that is made up of words a logomark is a individual symbol that can be recognisable and associated with a brand.
Logomarks are often used to represent brands that want to convey a strong and memorable visual identity, such as Nike's swoosh or Apple's apple. They are also commonly used as an alternative to a full logo, such as on social media profiles, as they are easily recognisable even when they are small or in black and white.
Logomarks can be designed using a variety of visual elements, including geometric shapes, abstract forms, and stylised illustrations. When well-designed, they can be an effective tool for communicating a brand's values, personality, and unique selling points.
For this next task we had to create a animal using nothing but shapes. I decided to keep it simple and create a rat with a wizard hat. I gave it a shadow to make the illustration have depth and changed the tone of grey to add variety. I was overall happy with this quick 20 minute design. What I learnt from this is that you can create something out of nothing in a short period of time.
A monogram in design is a graphic symbol or logo made by combining two or more letters, usually the initials of a person, company, or organisation. Monograms can be designed in various styles, from simple and clean to ornate and decorative, and are often used to create a distinctive and recognisable identity for a brand.
When creating a monogram, designers typically consider factors such as the overall style and aesthetic of the brand or individual, the legibility and recognisability of the letters, and the potential for the monogram to be used across a variety of mediums and applications.
Monograms can be created using various techniques, including typography, hand-drawing, or digital illustration. Some common design elements used in monograms include flourishes, borders, and graphic icons or symbols that relate to the brand or individual being represented.
The second task was to create a our initials using basic shapes. I focused on a simplified monogram as I wanted it to be clear to read and uncomplicated. I used nothing but circles and rectangles to create my initials. I am very lucky that my initials are so simple as it made it look like a typeface effortlessly.
Reflection
Overall todays class was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed this lector. It was one of my favourite lectors yet as I love when we are given a challenge to create something from limited resources as it challenges our creativity to the maximum.
