Week 5: Finding My Idea
This week is all about coming up with that initial spark for your major project.
Getting Started:
- Find an idea: The first step is just to get something on paper. It doesn't have to be perfect, just a starting point.
- Do some digging: Once I have my idea, do some quick research. What's already out there? What's the context?
- Brainstorm: Get on Miro, cover a wall in sticky notes, or just mind-map.
- Buy a Sketchbook: Use it to doodle, write down thoughts and ideas, and keep everything in one place.
Some Big Things to Think About:
Before you get too attached to an idea, ask yourself a few questions. This will help you figure out what you want to get out of this year.
- Does this actually need to be built? Good news: no. You don't need to code a perfect app or manufacture a product. The concept, research, and design process are what matter.
- What's the plan after graduation? If you're looking for a job, you can use this project to build a killer portfolio piece for a specific role you want.
- Are you a future entrepreneur? Maybe this project is your chance to flesh out a real business idea.
- Push yourself: This is your big project. Use it as an excuse to learn something new or tackle a problem that genuinely challenges you.
What Could This Project Even Be?
It doesn't just have to be a standard app or a website. Think bigger! It could be:
- A native app (for a phone or even a watch)
- A web app or SaaS (Software as a Service)
