I read the Nielsen Norman Group article on the 10 usability heuristics which are general principles used to improve user interface design.
10 Usability Heuristics for User Interface Design
This helped me understand that Memori needed to be clear, simple and easy for users to move through especially because the app is based around personal memories and emotional items. The article explains that users should always know what is happening in a system, that designs should use familiar language, and that users should not have to rely on memory to understand how to use an interface.
This was really useful for my project because in my first user test, there were areas where the user became confused, especially with the recap loading screen and some buttons not working properly. After reading this, I realised I needed to make the user journey clearer by adding better feedback, clearer buttons and more obvious instructions. It also helped me understand that Memori should feel easy and natural to use, rather than making the user guess what to do next.
Overall, this article helped me see what I needed to improve in Memori. It made me focus more on usability, making sure users feel in control, understand each step and can complete tasks without confusion. This influenced how I refined my prototype and made the experience more straightforward and user-friendly.
