For todays class we watched Kyles recorded presentation and worked on our assignments fro home. We went over the Swiss Style movement also known as International Typographic Style


Swiss Style was first seen in Germany in the 1950s. Its notorious for using grids and sans serif typeface as the centre point. The colour palette is extremely bright and contrasted and has a modernistic energy.

Armin Hoffmann

Armin began his career in 1947 he taught his students at the Schule für Gestaltung in Switzerland. He allowed them to be free spirited with their creative skills, many of his previous students have become house hold names in the design industry which includes artist Wolfgang Weingart. Hoffmanns work was focused on point, line, plane. He used grid systems but often did not reform to them. Many of his designs are in black and white and that pushing the contemporary.

Emil Ruder

Emil was born in Switzerland in 1914, He often experimented with sans - serif typography and letter spacing. Emil played a huge role in the future of graphic design in the 1950s. His style has been researched by many graphic designers and the use of the grid system in his work has evolved web design into what it is currently.

Josef-Muller Brockmann

Brockmann was born in 1914 in Switzerland. He started his career as a designer working under the wing of Walter Diggleman. He was known as a photographer and designer and after years of growing his reputation he became one of the leaders of the Swiss Style movement.

His work is clean and simple yet effective. He used forms and colours in his design combined with typography that graphic designers still use today.
